Do The Thing

Do The Thing

Do The Thing

Do The ThingHello my friend. It’s a grand day here. It’s a day of revolution.

It’s the kind of day where life has hit me like a ton of bricks. You know, the day you wake up and realize that you are giving great advice to everyone else and you are not taking enough of your own.

Your right to be joyful is your birthright, a dynamic force in this world.

You and you alone have the ability to know this happiness. Often, it’s not something that you need to create, but something you need to wake up and recognize.

It can be confusing sometimes. We get so trapped in the chatter inside our head, that we don’t always come up for air. We think we have to get a job done, a child to school, a dog to the vet, we have a million emails and work to-dos, house projects (like cleaning one room, just to get to the other rooms that are in total chaos). The car needs a registration transfer. Are you happy with all of this busy-ness? I’m not.

So, here’s my mandate.

STOP.

Take a breath.

I say this with all sincerity. Take a look out your window. Heck, go outside. Breathe in that beautiful fresh air. Take a quick walk or jog.

Give yourself five minutes to calm the mind chatter. Breath the kind of big breath you’d take if you’ve gone underwater and you’re coming up for that first breath again.

Now, realize this dear one. When you come back to reality, KNOW that no one else can give you the okay of doing what you want to do. If you are feeling stuck in some area of your life (or several areas of your life), you don’t need to figure it all out today. You’ll figure it out another time in the near future.

What you DO need to do is take a moment and go do one thing that makes you really happy now.

My ah-ha? I had tears streaming down my face in the shower this morning because I’m not painting enough.

Yep. Silly me. I’ve loved to create art since I can remember. In fact, one of my first memories is of me sitting with my feet on the table with a different colored crayon between each toe. Did I go decades without drawing and painting? Yes. Do I know why? Yes. I’ll get to that another time. It doesn’t matter today.

Today I want you to just go out AND DO THE THING.

It can be small, like splurging on a triple, quadruple, superdrink without the foam and with the chocolate, mega green juice…whatever it is for you, give yourself the treat. It can be allowing yourself to forget about the million things that have to be done. It can be driving to your favorite spot and sitting in glorious nature for a while. It can be spending an extra few minutes just hanging out with the person you love. It can even be taking out the paint brush and the paints and creating something for a few minutes. Sing with your favorite song.

Here’s the thing. You have the ability to experience happiness, ease, release, comfort, and bliss….just you. All by your amazing self. The world will wait for the other gazillion things that have to be done yesterday.

So what are you waiting for? Go and do it! Send me a note about what you did. I’ll love it, I swear.

Now go do something else for 30 mins. It will make you more productive, calm, and your nervous system will thank you later.
